VISA INFORMATION

PLEASE NOTE THAT: PASSPORTS MUST HAVE A VALIDITY OF AT LEAST 90 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF EXPIRY OF THE VISA TO BE ISSUED.

The Embassy issues two kinds of Visa:

  • SCHENGEN VISA ( “VSU” ) which allows the holder to circulate within the whole of Schengen territory (i.e. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden) and can be issued for a maximum of 90 days. Schengen visas can be issued for the following reasons: transit (“B” type), business, tourism, study, religious purpose, invitation, mission, self-employment, employment, sport competitions, medical treatment, transportation (all “C” type). The applicant has to apply at the Embassy of the Country of their main destination (according to the purpose of their journey and the length of the stay).
  • NATIONAL VISA (“VN”) valid only for Italy. These are the only Visa whose validity can be beyond 90 days. National visas can be issued for the following reasons: adoption, study, family reunion, accompanying relatives, religious purpose, medical treatment, self-employment, employment, job recruitment, diplomatic/assignment, mission, domicile, re-entry, working vacation (all “D” type).

The processing time takes at least 10 days for Schengen visas (up to 90 days) and 25 days for National visas (more than 90 days).

Visa fee is fixed every 3 months by the Embassy’s Decree and displayed on the “Information Board” in the Visa Section of the Embassy and at the Italian Trade Commission in Ho Chi Minh City.

To apply both for “VSU” or “VN” Visa, the following documents have to be submitted personally by the applicant. A Verbal Note is also required for holders of diplomatic and official passports. The visa on diplomatic passports is free of charge.

1. TRANSIT VISA ( “B” type)

This Visa is issued for a maximum stay of 5 days and is subordinated to possession of travel ticket and Visa for the country of final destination.

1. Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by the applicant, which can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy ;

2. One passport-size photograph, pasted to the form;

3. Visa for the next destination after Italy;

4. Confirmed Air ticket to the next destination after Italy;

5. Confirmed and pre-paid hotel reservation.

2. TOURIST VISA ( “C” type)

This Visa is issued for a maximum of 90 days.

1. Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by the applicant, which can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy;

2. One passport-size photograph, pasted to the form;

3. Confirmed ticket reservation (confirmed round trip ticket + 1 copy should be presented at the time of visa-issuance);

4. Confirmed Hotel Booking or sponsorship letter by the inviting person (with proof of credit-worthiness of the host) and documents which prove the family relation;

5. “Atto di fidejussione bancaria” (guarantee contract) covering the period of staying made through a Bank or an Insurance Company in Italy by the inviting person;

6. Proof of valid residence permit of the host if not Italian;

7. Proof of sufficient financial means (saving book of at least the previous year + 1 copy or bank statement or bank certificate or credit card or evidence (endorsement) of currency available;

8. Certificate of employment or registration of partnership and company or letter of school (in case the applicant is a student), granting permission to leave.

9. Any other documents supporting the Visa application.

Remarks:

Applicants, who are minors, are obliged to submit additional documents:

- Birth certificate legalized by the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs + 1 copy;

- Parental consent issued by the City Hall and legalized by the above mentioned authority

3. BUSINESS VISA ( “C” type)

1. Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by the applicant, which can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy;

2. One passport-size photograph, pasted to the form;

3. Invitation letter from Italian company + 1 copy in Italian language (sent directly to the Embassy), listing the names of the persons travelling, the purpose and the duration of the trip as well as by whom expenses for the stay will be born;

4. Copy (sent by fax) of the registration with the Italian competent authorities

( Chamber of Commerce) of the Italian inviting company;

5. Evidence of currency available, credit card, etc;

6. Certificate of employment stating the qualification of the applicants, the purpose of the trip and the permission to leave or registration of partnership and company;

7. Health insurance and insurance against accidents valid on the Italian territory (in case the insurance is provided for by the sponsor, this must be mentioned on the invitation letter or one copy of the receipt must be sent by fax to the Embassy);

8. Confirmed ticket reservation (confirmed round trip ticket + 1 copy should be presented at the time of visa-issuance);

9. Hotel reservation or proof of Italian hospitality;

10. Any other documents supporting the Visa application.

Remarks:

1) The maximum duration of stay cannot exceed 90 days per semester even if the visa is issued for 1 upto 5 years;

2) For participation to fairs in Italy, evidence of the payment of the stall has to be included as well as the evidence of the shipment of the goods to be displayed in the fair;

4. STUDY VISA ( “C” or “D” type)

1. Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by the applicant, which can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy;

2. One passport-sized photograph, pasted to the form;

3. Confirmed round trip ticket + 1 copy should be presented at the time of visa-issuance (for a visa upto 90 days);

4. Enrollment or admission of the applicant by recognized Italian school or University or Institution, stating the duration of the study course;

5. Receipt of payment of tuition fee;

6. Evidence of adequate financial means proving to be enough for the duration of the stay for lodging, boarding, etc. (scholarship, saving account of funds transferable abroad, personal or family means), “Atto di fidejussione bancaria” (guarantee contract) covering the period of staying made through a Bank or an Insurance Company in Italy;

7. Insurance contract valid in Italy (with Italian or foreign insurance company) covering medical treatment, hospitalization, accidents and urgent treatment for the entire duration of stay in Italy, if not provided for by the scholarship;

8. School Degree legalized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

THIS VISA IS FREE OF CHARGE.

5. FAMILY RE-UNION VISA ( “D” type)

The family reunion visa allows the applicants who intend to enter Italy for a long term stay (it can be for a fixed or unfixed term) in order to join his/her relative who is:

a) Italian citizen;

b) citizen of one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Island, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and Liechtenstein regularly residing in Italy;

c) citizen of a country different from the above mentioned countries, regularly residing in Italy and who is holder of “carta o permesso di soggiorno” with a validity at least 1 year for work, study, religious reasons, etc.

The documents required are the following:

1. Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by the applicant, which can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy;

2. One passport-sized photograph, pasted to the form;

3. The authorization issued by foreigner registration office of the competent Italian Police Offices (“Ufficio Stranieri della Questura”), stating that his/her name and all the required documents have been submitted under his/her name and have been accepted;

4. Document proving his/her relationship with the relative residing in Italy

a/ For the spouse: marriage certificate;

b/ For the children: certificate of birth with the indication of their parent’s name;

c/ For the depending parent: birth certificate of the son/daughter residing in Italy with the indication of his/her parent’s name and documents attesting their condition of depending parents;

5. Air ticket.

Remark:

1. In replacement of the authorization by the Italian Police Station Offices, when the relative living in Italy is an Italian citizen, a declaration by him/her attesting his/her income, his/her availability of an adequate house and his/her commitment to bear all eventual medical expenses for his/her relative, is required;

2. All documents issued by the Vietnamese Authorities must be legalized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, translated into Italian language and certified by the Embassy.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:

  • All the above documents will be retained by this Embassy, so please do not attach any originals, which might be of importance to you. The Embassy may require, in some cases, further documentation or a personal interview with the applicant and reserves itself the right to take the final decision. The presentation of all the documents requested does not imply necessarily the issue of the visa.
  • The Embassy of Italy wishes to bring to your kind notice that the consular visa you have been issued does not automatically guarantee the right to enter the Italian territory. The Italian Immigration Officers are the sole authority who is in a position to grant you the right to enter Italy on your arrival.
  • It is not permitted to carry out working activities, except for those who already have a work permit;
  • It is not permitted to enter Italy before the date shown on the visa;
  • It is imperative to leave the Italian territory within the expiry of the visa;
  • The foreign citizen must report arrival to the nearest Police Station within eight days from your arrival into Italy (if you stay in a hotel, the hotel will do it for you by asking for your passport on your arrival);
  • Students must report their arrival to the nearest Police Station within eight days from their arrival in to Italy, producing a certificate of enrolment at a university or school.
  • The Permit of Stay issued by the Italian Police Office (Questura) as an extension of a National Visa, along with his valid national Passport or travel document, will allow the foreign citizen to freely move for a maximum of 90 days in the semester in the other Schengen Country’s’ territory
  • The foreign citizen should report his presence to the police within 3 days upon
    his arrival in the other Schengen Country.
  • Since the informative system rounds off the decimal figure of the fee, the amount actually charged may be higher than the one appearing on the sticker;
  • There is no extra charge such as “Urgent fees” or any other. Anyone being offered, outside or inside the Embassy, special services against payment of additional fees is kindly requested to refuse such offers and report them to the head of mission in writing.
